BEAUFORT: A total of 200 people, comprising residents of Lumadan State seat, have registered with Social Security Organisation (Socso) under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) here.
Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam made this effort happen as part of his commitment to ensuring that the target groups in his constituency benefit from SKSPS.
Most interestingly, 10 per cent of the SKSPS contribution payment is fully borne by Ruslan in support of the government’s efforts to defend the welfare of the people.
Ruslan, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said that many people still do not know that the federal government finances 90 per cent of SKSPS contribution payments while the people only pay the remaining 10 per cent.
Without government funding of the 90% of the SKSPS contribution payments, he said the contributors had to pay the full amount of RM232.80 a year, but now people only have to pay 10 percent, which is RM23.28 cents a year.
“For Lumadan residents, I will fully bear the remaining 10 per cent or RM23.28 so that the people, especially the self-employed, will benefit.
“This is my commitment because this protection is important in the event of an accident while working,” he said after officiating the SKSPS Registration Program at DHRM Unity Hall, Kg Lago, recently.
Also present was Socso Sabah Director, Dr Ali India.
Commenting further, Ruslan said that the awareness among the people about the benefits of SKSPS in Lumadan is increasing and he plans to expand such program further.
He said the number of SKSPS contribution applications will be increased based on needs and requests of the community in Lumadan from now on.
“We will do the same program next time and we are open to 200 to 300 applications because many are aware of the benefits of SKSPS, especially the self-employed, such as farmers, fishermen, breeders and small traders.
“In addition, we will also implement a program with the housewives of Lumadan to inform them about their names that are automatically listed under E-Suri.
“At the same time, we will provide information on the benefits to be gained from E-suri introduced by the Madani Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Ali said that his side has now registered about 13,000 SKSPS contributors in Sabah and that number will increase through an awareness program that will be actively implemented later.
He said the decision was made to reach the 10 per cent target, which is about 20,000 of the 200,000 contributors set at the national level.
“We will continue to give awareness to the community through close cooperation, such as this program with Datuk Ruslan, which is the first in Sabah and should be emulated in other areas.
“Meanwhile, there are about 34,000 housewives from the B40 group who have been registered under E-suri and of that number, about 1,200 housewives are from Lumadan,” he said.
