He said the best student for SRU examination for 2024 was Nurfarisya Haffizah binto Moksim from SAN Naluyan, Sipitang.

However, Ruslan said there was a decline in the official results of the Sijil Menengah Ugama (SMU) Kurikulum Bersepadu Dini (KBD) and the SMU Kurikulum Bersepadu Tahfiz (KBT) examinations.

The Kurikulum Bersepadu Dini (KBD), or Integrated Dini Curriculum, is a specialized curriculum integrates religious studies with core academic subjects, aiming to produce students who excel both spiritually and academically.

The Kurikulum Bersepadu Tahfiz (KBT), or Integrated Tahfiz Curriculum, is a specialized educational program to integrate Holy Quran memorization (Tahfiz) with core academic subjects like Maths, Science, English, Bahasa Melayu, History and Islamic studies, providing students with a holistic education that prepares them for both religious and secular pursuits.

Ruslan said the decline for the SMU KBD and SMU KBT examinations was 0.03 per cent and 0.3 per cent, respectively, compared to the previous year.

“The performance for the SMU KBD examination recorded a State Average Grade (GPN) of 2.92, and 2.88 for the SMU KBT examination.

“Of the total 313 SMU candidates, 303 passed, comprising 24 achieving the Mumtaz (best) grade, 88 earned Jayyid Jiddan (very good), 126 received Jayyid (good), and 65 obtained Maqbul (passed),” he said.

He said only four State Islamic Secondary Schools (SMAN) received 100 per cent passing rate in the SMU 2024 and two SMANs namely SMAN Toh Puan Hajjah Rahmah, Kota Kinabalu and SMAN Kunak received the Excellent School Award.

Ruslan said 24 candidates received Mumtaz results in SMU KBD 2024 and its best student was Husna Insyirah binti Herwan from SMAH Toh Puan Rahamah, Kinarut in Papar.

To a question, he said several weak subjects in the SRU and SMU examination levels and needed attention by the schools and teachers to be improved.

“Subjects that require focus at the SRU level include Hadith (documentation and study of the sayings, actions, approvals and characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, Imlak (Jawi dictation or writing in Arabic language), and Akhlak (Ethics), while for SMU, the subjects Tauhid (Islamic Theology), Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), and Bahasa Melayu need improvement,” he said.
