KOTA BELUD: A man was killed while three others were injured in an accident involving two vehicles on Jalan Kelawat, here, on Thursday night.
The 8pm incident resulted in the death of a 58-year-old man who was trapped in a four-wheel-drive.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station Chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said they received a call regarding the accident at 8.05pm and 10 personnel, including an officer, along with a fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit, were rushed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team found the accident involved two vehicles - a Toyota Hilux and an eight-tonne truck.
“There were four victims, including one who was trapped in the driver’s seat of the Hilux,” he said, Friday.
According to him, the firemen conducted an operation to extract the trapped victim using a special equipment.
“However, the rescued victim was confirmed dead by a medical officer at the scene.
“The victim’s body was then handed over to the police for further action,” he said.
Syazwan said the three other victims who were in the truck sustained injuries and received initial treatment from the EMRS team before being handed over to the Ministry of Health (MOH) for further treatment.
“Subsequently, the fire team conducted a vehicle inspection and carried out cleaning of the accident site using a hose reel.
“The operation ended at 9.24pm after ensuring that no other risks remained at the scene,” he said.
