Sugut: Blowing up issues of hatred against leaders, races or religions is not a practice of the people of Sabah and can destroy the harmony, said Minister of Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Sabah Datuk James Ratib.
He urged the people to continue to maintain the harmony in accordance with the spirit of tolerance between races and religions in Sabah.
He criticised the actions of a peninsula cartoonist and the actions of leaders of the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) who were against the Christmas celebration at one of the ministries in Putrajaya.
Such action clearly showed the shallow mindset among leaders of PAS which at the same time created an atmosphere of disharmony among the community.
“In Sabah, we live in harmony among people of various races and religions. This has been our prized treasure since the beginning, and this is what we need to preserve for generations to come.
“Not only the people of Sabah, but also many of our brothers from the peninsula will want to continue to live here because they appreciate the diversity of community life that has been established for so long,” he said.
