KENINGAU: Construction work on the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) Complex building at the Malaysia-Indonesia border at Kampung Bantul in the Pagalungan Nabawan subdistrict is underway.
Pensiangan MP Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup said initial work involving clearing and levelling the land has already begun.
Arthur, who is also the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, said this after officiating the appreciation ceremony for the Nabawan District Office and Pagalungan Subdistrict Office at a hotel here on Friday.
In the 2025 budget announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in October last year, a total of RM560 million was provided to strengthen the country’s borders.
Among them was building and upgrading ICQS’s in Rantau Panjang and Bukit Berapit as well as building two new border posts in Bantul and Serudung and supplying enforcement agencies with drone and AI technology to increase the reach of areas that can be monitored.
Earlier in his speech officiating the ceremony, Arthur said that the cooperation between civil servants and state and federal government leaders must be continued for the sake of development of the people in the second largest constituency in the state.
At the ceremony was also a handover and acceptance of duties between the new Nabawan District Officer Marshal Anthony and Peter Jiton, the previous Nabawan District Officer who was transferred to Kota Belud.
Retirees were also among the recipients of special awards and appreciation to the staff of the Nabawan District Office and the Pagalungan Sub-District Office.
Also present were Nabawan Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohamed Yasin, Senator Datuk Bobbey Suan and Assistant Pagalungan Sub-District Officer Hasinin Kinsim.
