BEAUFORT: A new town will be established in Weston through the development of two blocks of shops by Perkasa Realty Sdn Bhd, with construction having commenced last November.
Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharam said the State Government has allocated RM2.7 million for the construction of the building, which will consist of 12 single-storey shop lots.
He said the infrastructure is being built on a one-hectare site near Weston Town and this was his proposal while serving as the Chairman of Sedco’s subsidiary previously.
“The construction of these two socioeconomic shop blocks started in November last year and is expected to be completed within 14 months, that is, by December this year.
“A similar project involving the construction of eight shop units will also be carried out in Padas Damit Town in the middle of this year, which will enhance the socioeconomic situation of the residents,” said Ruslan, who is also Lumadan Assemblyman, when met after officiating the groundbreaking for the Proposed Socioeconomic Shops in the New Town of Weston here Tuesday.
Also present were Sipitang Member of Parliament, who is also the Malaysian Cocoa Board Sabah Chairman Datuk Matbali Musah; Perkasa Realty Chairman Christopher Mandut; and Beaufort District Officer Nazri Ajun.
Meanwhile, Christopher, in his speech, said that Perkasa Realty has developed over 1,400 shop units involving 86 projects throughout the region since 1978.
He said the company is currently actively implementing nine more similar projects in various districts, including the construction of the two blocks in the new town of Weston.
“Some of the development allocation is in the form of government subsidy components, meaning that the price per shop unit is set at a lower rate compared to similar infrastructure developed by commercial companies.
“Therefore, through such development projects, I am confident that Weston will experience economic impacts from this, especially since this area is known as a tourist hotspot in Sabah,” he said.
