KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Human Resources (Kesuma) through the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) and Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has allocated RM20 million to provide skills training to up to 5,000 Malaysians in three key sectors namely cyber security, data science and artificial intelligence (AI), this year.
Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said it involves reskilling and upskilling training to Malaysian workers, with all participants will undergo between three to six months training programme with one of Indian tech giants, HCL Technologies.
“For Perkeso, they will be training workers covered under the Employment Insurance Scheme, while HRD Corp will be training workers in general, outside of the Perkeso scheme. Our target is to train up to 5,000 Malaysian workers in those key sectors, under the module provided by HCL this year.
“One of the reasons why Perkeso is in is also because of the Employment Insurance Scheme they are handling. So within this training ecosystem, MyFutureJobs will also be helping them to match with suitable employment opportunities.
Sim said this at a press conference after witnessing the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HRD Corp, Perkeso and HCL Technologies at Menara Perkeso here today.
The minister also said that the MoU is a continuation of a very important discussion between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with HCL Technologies, during his diplomatic mission to India in August last year.
“So just within six months, we are here today to witness this very significant event, the signing of an official MOU to commemorate or rather to mark this cooperation between these three organisations.
“Hopefully, we can increase the participants next year. If we can hit up to 10,000 (participants), then I am definitely more than happy to assist,” he said, adding that the partnership also reflects Malaysia’s commitment to bridging digital skill gaps, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a regional leader in workforce development.
Meanwhile Perkeso in a shared statement with HRD Corp and HLC Technologies stated that the first batch of trainees is set to begin their training early this year, with applications open on the MyFutureJobs portal.
