Proposed Tanjung Embang Port modelled after Japan’s Port of Kobe: Abang Johari
KOTA KINABALU: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic) said the proposed deep-sea port at Tanjung Embang will be modelled after Japan's Port of Kobe, Borneo Post reported.

Speaking after launching the Graduates Enhancement Training Sarawak – Work Readiness Programme (Gets-WRP) in Kuching, Sarawak, on Wednesday, he said the port would address the limitations of shallow waters near existing ports by being built offshore.

Abang Johari highlighted the economic importance of a deep-sea port, stressing that shallow waters hinder the ability of large vessels to dock, potentially affecting Sarawak’s trade capacity.

Last Sunday, he revealed plans to situate the port 8 kilometres off Tanjung Embang’s coast, with depths of 15 to 20 meters, and noted it would house Petroleum Sarawak Bhd’s (Petros) gas terminal.
