Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd (SMM) has initiated legal proceedings in the High Court against its former Chief Executive Officer Jontih Enggihon and external party Tei Jiann Chien.
In a statement, Thursday, the State Government’s agency overseeing the mining sector in Sabah said the suit alleges serious misconduct including fraud, breach of fiduciary duties, document tampering and potential collusion.
SMM has also reported these allegations to enforcement agencies like the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“SMM is taking this step to safeguard its interests, as well as the State Government and the people of Sabah,” the statement said.
“The Company will continue to maintain the highest standards of corporate governance and remain accountable to the State and the people.
“Reports regarding the misconduct involving SMM’s former CEO, along with potential collusion with third parties have also been lodged with relevant enforcement agencies, including the police and the MACC, to support broader investigations into the matter and compliance with regulatory obligations.
“The Company remains committed to upholding integrity, accountability and transparency in the management of Sabah’s mineral resources and ensuring that all operations align with legal and ethical standards,” it said.
