Gimbang elected PPBDS President

KOTA KINABALU: Former Deputy Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, has been re-elected as President of the Sabah Dusunic Language Preservation Association (PPBDS) without contest during the Biennial General Meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Penampang Library on Saturday.

Also re-elected unopposed were Datuk Eric Majimbun as Deputy President, Petrus Guriting as Secretary-General and Lothar Michael as Treasurer.

The elected committee members include Dato Webley Disim, who will be appointed Assistant Treasurer, along with Alex Kando, Soguli Olid, and Sitiamah Sahat, who will be appointed Assistant Secretary-General. All positions were filled without contest.

Additional committee positions will be filled once amendments to the association’s constitution are approved by the Registrar of Societies.

In his speech, Gimbang urged PPBDS members to intensify their efforts to empower and preserve the Dusun language, particularly among the younger generation. 

He said that KBDS had initiated programmes such as the Orthography Workshop, Dictionary, and Bloom, held at The Kaingaran, Kampung Dalungan Tambunan, in Oct 2023.

The association aims to encourage the Kadazan-Dusun community to speak the Dusun language in their respective dialects to ensure its preservation for future generations.
