Kota Kinabalu: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale in the Minahassa Peninsula, Sulawesi, Indonesia last night was also felt around Semporna, Tawau and Lahad Datu.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement last night reported that the earthquake occurred at a distance of 210 kilometres northeast of Palu, Indonesia.

MetMalaysia said that the moderate earthquake at a depth of 80 kilometres occurred at coordinates 0.5 degrees North and 121.2 degrees East.
