Afdlin Shauki denies misconduct in awarding of DBKL project
Actor Afdlin Shauki said he will fully cooperate with any investigations into allegations that he was involved in the awarding of a RM4 million project without an open tender.
PETALING JAYA: Actor Afdlin Shauki has denied allegations of misconduct related to a project under the Kuala Lumpur mayor’s purview.

On Tuesday, Kuala Lumpur mayor Maimunah Sharif said DBKL was probing allegations on social media that Afdlin, who is a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) advisory board member, was involved in the awarding of a RM4 million project without an open tender.

In an Instagram post, Afdlin said the allegations were attempts by irresponsible parties to tarnish his reputation.

“Their agenda is driven by jealousy and unjustified hatred. Such malicious slander and accusations should not be allowed to spread,” he said.

“I am ready to fully cooperate with any investigations opened into this matter. I am also confident that the truth will eventually emerge and justice will prevail.”

Afdlin added that he filed a police report today.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) previously said it was ready to assist DBKL in investigating the alleged misconduct.

The controversy centres on a social media post which alleged that a RM4 million DBKL publishing project was awarded to a company owned by Afdlin’s associate without going through the proper tender process.

The post claimed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his political secretary, Azman Abidin, were aware of the projects that Afdlin had applied for – which compelled DBKL’s directors to fast-track approvals.

Azman, however, said his name had been misused in the post and that political figures were often easy targets for such false claims.

On Tuesday, Maimunah also said she had cancelled a RM7 million project linked to Afdlin upon assuming office last year.
