Cops open probe after human remains found near Terengganu beach

PETALING JAYA: Police have launched an investigation after 34 suspected human bone fragments were discovered in the vicinity of Pantai Batu Burok 2 in Kuala Terengganu last night.

Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor said they were notified about the discovery at about 10pm by a member of the public.

He added that the bone fragments were found near a drain at the beach, and about 40m from the sea, Berita Harian reported.

“It was found behind the public works department (JKR) quarters which are no longer inhabited,” Azli said.

The fragments have been sent to the pathology unit and chemistry department for further examination and to determine the victim’s identity.

Police are also investigating whether the surrounding area was privately owned or was previously used as a burial ground.
