TAWAU: Four men suspected of being drug traffickers were arrested by police along with a total of 3,058.05gm of syabu, valued at RM180,000, during two separate raids in the district last week.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said two of the suspects, aged between 28 and 41, are locals, while the other two are foreign nationals - a used car dealership worker and an unemployed.
He said the first two suspects were arrested in a raid on a house in Jalan Kuhara around 5pm on Jan 19, resulting in the seizure of 2,039.64gm of drugs worth RM120,000.
Following questioning, two other accomplices who were believed to be heading to Tawau from Lahad Datu in a Perodua Bezza were arrested on Jan 20, at 12.10am, at Km 60 of the Semporna-Tawau road.
“A team from the Tawau District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) carried out the raid and found 1,018.41gm of drugs, worth RM60,000, in the vehicle,” he told a press conference at the Tawau District Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
Jasmin added that one of the suspects has a criminal record related to drugs and tested positive for drug use.
“Police are continuing investigation into the source of the drugs, believed to be for the local market.
“All suspects are currently remanded until early February for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” said Jasmin.
“We (police) do not rule out the possibility of a network being involved in the drug trafficking case, with the drugs being delivered following orders,” he added.
