DBKL's RM4m project probe involving Afdlin Shauki to conclude next week
PETALING JAYA: The investigation into allegations of misconduct surrounding a RM4 million project involving Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) linked to actor and director Afdlin Shauki (pic) is expected to be completed next week.

Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said DBKL’s integrity unit will summon the relevant parties, including Afdlin, who is also a member of the City Hall’s advisory board, as part of its investigation.

“Afdlin has the right to deny the allegations levelled against him. However, from a governance standpoint, the investigation must proceed,” she said after officiating an event in Putrajaya today, Astro Awani reported.

“I am waiting for the results of the investigation. If Afdlin is found to be innocent, then so be it.”

On Tuesday, mayor Maimunah Sharif said DBKL was investigating allegations on social media that Afdlin was involved in the awarding of a project without an open tender.

Yesterday, Afdlin said he had lodged a police report following accusations of misconduct related to the project.

He said the allegations were attempts by irresponsible parties to tarnish his reputation and that he was ready to fully cooperate with any investigation opened into the matter.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission previously said it was ready to assist DBKL in investigating the matter.

The controversy centres on a social media post which alleged that a RM4 million DBKL publishing project was awarded to a company owned by Afdlin’s associate without going through the proper tender process.

The post claimed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his political secretary, Azman Abidin, were aware of the projects that Afdlin had applied for, which compelled DBKL’s directors to fast-track approvals.

Azman said, however, that his name had been misused in the post and that political figures were often easy targets for such false claims.

On Tuesday, Maimunah also said she had cancelled a RM7 million project linked to Afdlin upon assuming office last year. - FMT
