Trapped rangers manage to exit

BELURAN: Three rangers who were reported trapped in floodwaters for two days near Kampung Bidu-Bidu, here, are safe after managing to exit the area as the water levels receded slightly by using a hill path on Thursday. 

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Mukim Nangoh, Telupid said upon receiving a report, three personnel along with a boat, were rushed to the location to assist the rangers.

The operation was later called off after the rangers managed to exit the flooded area. 

Following the flooding, several Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) were opened in Telupid, with monitoring also conducted in Beluran and Kinabatangan.

APM, along with the Social Welfare Department and other agencies, assisted victims placed in the PPS at Kampung Bauto, Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Kiabau, Dewan Kampung Rancangan Nangoh, Balai Raya Kampung Maau and PPS Dewan Kampung Bambangan.

Telupid District Officer and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee, Celestine Jetony, officiated the opening of the PPS.

In Beluran, APM and other agencies monitored flooded roads, with only four-wheel-drive vehicles able to pass along Jalan Rampik. 

Flood monitoring was also carried out in Kampung Balaban and Kampung Muanad.

In Kinabatangan, APM reported a rapid rise in the Kinabatangan River, causing five villages — Kampung Dagat, Litang, Tidung, Balat and Sangau — to be cut off.
