BEAUFORT: A total of 13 Flood Warning Stations (SAB) will be installed this year at several hotspot locations along the Padas River, here.

Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam said the SAB is an initiative under the Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme (PRAB), which is implemented nationwide.

According to him, the system is capable of predicting floods seven days in advance and issuing flood warning announcements two days in advance, thus, assisting in effective preparations for flood disaster management.

“Of course, this system can help us make early preparations for flood disaster management, especially the Natural Disaster Gazette, since Beaufort has been a flood zone for a long time.

“The SAB, under the control of the Beaufort Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), is also equipped with water level sensors, closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) and sirens,” he said during the Flood Survey Programme with relevant agencies in Lumadan, recently.

A total of seven agencies were involved in the flood survey in seven villages affected by heavy rains over the past five days. Also involved were District Officer, Nazri Ajun and Beaufort District JPS Engineer, Jackson Malindai.

Meanwhile, Ruslan, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said for more comprehensive flood disaster management, his party would develop the Aduan Rakyat (AR) application.

He said the AR, which will also be directly linked to the SAB, was designed to make it easier for the community to obtain or distribute detailed information, especially regarding the flood situation in their respective villages.

“This AR application was developed for the use of all mobile smartphone users so that information and notifications related to the current situation of rain and river water levels as well as flood warning announcements can be accessed in real-time.

“Access for relevant government agencies is also provided in this application which of course can ensure more comprehensive flood disaster management preparations in the future,” he said.

“I leave it to the Beaufort District Office to develop this application so that the related aspects and matters can meet the needs of the flood situation in this area,” he said.
