Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government will continue working with like-minded organisations that prioritise political stability to ensure sustained economic development and progress.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stressed the State Government’s appreciation for the Chinese community’s ongoing support as key partners in Sabah’s growth.
“With such solid support, I believe Sabah will remain on the right track under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plan,” he said at the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) Angpow Festival at Hakka Hall on Sunday.
His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister II and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.
Hajiji acknowledged the Chinese community’s significant contributions to Sabah’s economic growth, commerce, education, culture and social welfare.
He also commended FCAS for its efforts in preserving Chinese heritage and fostering unity among communities in Sabah.
The event, held to celebrate Chinese New Year, featured cultural performances, a lion dance and the symbolic presentation of angpows to senior citizens and children.
The ceremony was graced by Sabah Head of State Tun Musa Aman and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, along with other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, FCAS President, Tan Sri TC Goh said the festival was made auspicious with gracious presence of the TYT and his wife.
He said the CNY, like all others is a celebration for all Sabahans in the spirit of goodwill and plainness.
On the coming elections, Hoh hoped for the continuation of a state government. He considered Hajiji’s administration strong with two thirds majority involving multiple political parties.
“We hope the new government is formed on the same spirit of unity in bringing development to Sabah. If not we would stagnate.
“Sabahans need the Pan Borneo Highway, Kota Kinabalu and Tawau airports badly. There are issues of poor roads, insufficient water and power supply.
“Uniting to settle the problem should be priority for the people’s sake. Don’t go and do less important things like squabbling every day,” he said.
