Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained a state government finance administrative assistant for allegedly submitting fraudulent hotel accommodation claims amounting to RM20,000.
The suspect, in his 30s, was detained Tuesday morning while giving his statement at the MACC office here.
The man allegedly used an online application to create 23 fake hotel receipts under four different names, with none of the named individuals having actually stayed at the hotels.
The fraudulent claims used the names of several hotels operating in Sabah.
Sabah MACC Director Datuk S. Karunanithy said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, with the suspect scheduled to be charged at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court today (Wednesday).
