Warisan slams poor Sabah road maintenance
Samuel urged Sabahans not to normalise these issues and accept poor infrastructure as part of daily life.
Kota Kinabalu: The recent fatal motorcycle accident caused by a pothole on the Lido flyover has sparked criticism of the GRS-PH State Government’s road maintenance.

“Why should this happen? Do Sabahans deserve this?” said Kota Kinabalu Warisan Division Information Chief Samuel Wong in a statement, Tuesday.

“Should not road safety be guaranteed by the State Government? Should not the government ensure that contractors properly maintain roads to keep them safe for road users? Why does it always take a tragedy before action is taken?” he said.

He said the deadly pothole was not new and in fact there is road safety concerns across Kota Kinabalu, citing the dangerous conditions on Jalan Lintas flyover to Jalan Tuaran bypass, which has both potholes and non-functioning streetlights.

“This is not an isolated case. What about other roads with potholes in Kota Kinabalu?

“Especially the Jalan Lintas flyover to Jalan Tuaran bypass, where potholes are everywhere and streetlights are malfunctioning, making the roads dangerously dark at night. This has been a longstanding issue for years. Is this up to safety standards?” he said.

He said Sabahans who pay their taxes deserve better basic infrastructure and called on Deputy Chief Minister cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya to explain the persistent road maintenance issues.

“What is the real issue here? Why does it take so long to resolve these problems? The people deserve answers,” he said.
