BEAUFORT: Several ageing clinics in Lumadan have been identified for upgrades during a joint inspection by Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Ruslan Muharam and officials from the District Health Office.

Two Klinik Desa identified as priorities for renovation and relocation were in Kampung Kebajang and Kampung Gadong, which faces recurring flood issues.

“The relocation is deemed necessary as the current locations are too small to support expanded facilities and modern infrastructure,” said Ruslan during the inspection on Monday which also included officials from the District Police Headquarters and the Drainage and Irrigation Department.

“A five-acre plot near the existing site was identified for the new Gadong clinic with a similar plan in development for the Kebajang facility,” he added.

Ruslan said there are plans to construct new clinics in Kampung Lupak and Suasa to better serve local residents, particularly expectant mothers.

He directed the Beaufort District Health Office to prepare the necessary documentation to move these projects forward.

In addition, Ruslan, who is also Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, said his office has overseen the completion of two major health facilities in the past four years, namely a new wing at the Weston Health Clinic and the Mother and Child Health Clinic in Kampung Lingkungan, completed in October 2023 at a cost of RM1 million.

“These new facilities replace outdated structures, including the 42-year-old Weston Health Clinic building and the previously non-operational Lingkungan clinic,” he said.

He also noted that a new comprehensive health facility was established in Kampung Padas Damit Health Clinic last year, costing RM700,000.

“The facility features a pharmacy, dental clinic, laboratory and emergency unit and can serve up to 200 patients daily.

“Plans are also in place to upgrade the clinic’s existing building to further expand its treatment capabilities,” he said.
