Bali police arrest UK nationals for drug smuggling attempt
The UK nationals suspected of attempting to smuggle drugs into Bali during a press conference in Denpasar on Friday.
DENPASAR: The Bali Regional Police arrested three nationals from the United Kingdom, identified as JC, LE, and PA, for allegedly attempting to traffic around Rp6 billion worth of illegal drugs into Bali.

In a press conference in Denpasar, Bali, on Friday, the deputy director of the police’s Narcotics Investigation Directorate, Adjunct Grand Commissioner Ponco Indriyo, reported that his team arrested JC, 37, and LE, 39, at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport on Saturday (Feb 1).

He stated that the police caught JC and LE with around one kilogram of narcotics from their country on arriving in Bali Province after a transit in Doha, Qatar.

The suspects’ scheme to market the drugs in Bali was thwarted when customs officers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and the Bali Police discovered the contraband hidden in food packages inside suitcases during an X-ray inspection.

Upon inspecting JC’s suitcase, the authorities found 637.12 grams of white powder, suspected to be a class 1 drug, concealed within 10 blue plastic packages of various flavours of Angel Delight dessert.

Additionally, the authorities discovered seven plastic packages of powder, weighing 443.10 grams and believed to be cocaine, in a suitcase brought by LE.

The officers then proceeded to detain JC and LE at the airport customs office for further investigation.
