RANAU: Two men cheated death when their lorry in plunged into a ravine along Jalan Ranau-Sandakan, near Simpang Libang-Marakau, Kg. Tanah Merah, Tuesday afternoon.
In the incident at about 6pm, the driver of the three-ton empty Nissan lorry is believed to have lost control and crashed before plunging into a 25-metre deep ravine.
Head of the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station (KBBP), Ridwan Mohd Taib, said he received a call regarding the incident at 6.10pm via MERS 999.
He said seven personnel from the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the scene with two FRT-1 and FRV-1 machines.
“The firemen found two victims involved, namely men aged 30 and 33 who had gotten out of the vehicle by themselves before firemen arrived.
“Firemen gave initial treatment to the slightly injured victims and then handed them over to the Ministry of Health (KKM) for further treatment,” he said.
Ridwan said after ensuring that the situation was safe and the operation ended at 6.48pm.
Meanwhile, he urged motorists to be extra careful when driving across the district, especially on narrow village roads, rainy weather conditions and damaged roads.
