Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Games (Saga) will serve as a starting point for young athletes in the State to strive for excellence on the world stage in the future, especially winning gold medals at the Olympics.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin said this after chairing the 11th Saga Tawau 2025 Main Committee Meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Thursday.

“We hope to identify more talented athletes in this year’s event, so that we can develop them and subsequently compete at the higher level, not only on the national stage, and ultimately to win gold medals at the Olympics in the future,” he said.
A total of 30 districts with the addition of Sook and Paitan who have been granted districts status will be taking part in the biennial games this year scheduled to be held from October 11-17 with 25 events to be competed.
This will be the third time Tawau are hosting the event and the district officers from each district will also be appointed as the head of the contingent.
Ellron hoped that with the increase in numbers of athletes this year following the participation of Sook and Paitan, it will provide greater and healthier competition for all the contingents.

He also said the main organising committee has unanimously agreed to provide all the best available requirements for all the contingents with the support, backing and cooperation of all parties including the media personnel to ensure the event this year will run smoothly.
Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Asun, Sabah Sports Council director Asneh Mohd Noor and Sabah Sports Board general manager Terrance Pudin together with representatives from all the 30 districts were briefed earlier by the technical committee headed by Sabah Sports Council on the venues and regulations to be followed.
