Drink-driving: Duo jailed and fined
Both of them paid the fine and served one day in jail, and their driving licenses were suspended for two years.
SANDAKAN: Two local male drivers, in their 50s, were sentenced to a day’s jail and fined RM10,000 or six months’ jail each for drink-driving in January, respectively.

Magistrate Nur Faezah Jafry handed down the sentence to the men who pleaded guilty to offences under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 (Amendment 2020).

The offence occurred during a roadblock operation under the “Ops Mabuk” carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Sandakan District Police Headquarters in the evening of January this year, conducted between Batu 4 and Batu 5, here.

Both of them paid the fine and served one day in jail, and their driving licenses were suspended for two years.

Meanwhile, another local man, in his 50s, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the court allowed him bail of RM2,500 with two local sureties while awaiting the next mention date.

In the same court, a local man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s were also sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM6,500 or seven months’ jail for the man and RM5,500 in default five months’ jail for the woman for driving recklessly, causing an accident involving another person.

The court also ordered for their convictions to be endorsed on their respective driving licenses.

In a separate case, a local man in his 20s was also fined RM5,500 or spend 11 months in prison for displaying a registration number that did not belong to his vehicle. He served the jail sentence as he could not pay the fine.

The man was sentenced to 11 months in prison for failing to pay the fine. Traffic Prosecuting Officer Inspector Irianshah Bakar appeared for the prosecution.
