Teenager missing after fishing trip in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A 14-year-old boy has been reported missing after heading out to catch shrimp with a friend at 5.30am on Saturday in the waters off Tanjung Semawang here and has yet to return.

The Fire and Rescue Department launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation following an emergency call at 6.39am today.

District Fire and Rescue Station chief Severinus Sainkui said the complainant reported that the victim had gone shrimp fishing with friends that day but failed to return by midday.

The complainant later searched for the boy and found his boat in the waters off Tanjung Semawang with a cap floating on the surface.
