A block of premises housing four shop lots in Kg Sungai Burung was also destroyed in a fire — an hour after two houses were destroyed in Kg Budaya Pasir Putih Baru on Saturday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief, Jemishin Ujin, said that the semi-permanent shop, with a total area of 30 x 120, was 90 per cent destroyed in the incident, which occurred around 1.30pm.
He said the shop lots housed a welding workshop, two grocery stores and a food stall. Jemishin also said they received an emergency call at 1:34pm through MERS999 and arrived at the scene, about 45km away, at 2:38pm.
“A team of 11 personnel was deployed to the location along with five fire engines to carry out fire extinguishing operations using water sources from the fire trucks,” he said on Saturday.
No casualties were reported.
Earlier, at around 12:300pm, two semi-permanent houses were also destroyed in a fireat Lorong 8A Mawar in Kg Budaya Pasir Putih Baru.
In NABAWAN, a non-permanent house was destroyed in a fire in Kampung Kalas on Saturday morning.
The District Fire and Rescue Station received a call at 10.45am and seven personnel rushed to the scene with machinery. Also at the location were personnel from Sabah Electricity.
The extinguishing operations used water from machinery. No casualties were reported.
