Tougher for victims as school reopens
SANDAKAN: For many families statewide affected by the recent floods, preparing their young for school is an extra challenge.

In fact, the flood victims in Kg Pengkalan, Bukit Garam have yet to make any preparations. Seraya Garai (pic), 53, a mother of four school-going children is one of them.

“The flooding has been severe and lasted three weeks. Our income as fishermen and farmers have been affected since we cannot go out to earn a living. Our crops are also submerged.

“We do not have enough money to provide for our four children, who start school on Monday (Feb 17). “We only just returned after spending nearly a week at Balai Raya Kampung Pengkalan Bukit Garam, before being relocated again when the community hall was also flooded.
