 GRS to discuss seat allocation this Sunday

Kota Kinabalu: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will discuss the allocation of seats for the coming 17th State Election (PRN17) at its Supreme Council meeting scheduled for this Sunday.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also GRS Chairman, confirmed that the distribution of seats would be on the agenda of the meeting.

He told reporters this after launching the Petroleum Oil Storage and Refinery Plant Construction Project at Sabah Oil and Gas Industrial Park (Sogip), at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Tuesday.

He was commenting on a proposal from United Sabah National Organisation (Usno) President Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia that GRS contests all 73 seats in the state election.

GRS is a coalition of eight political parties, namely Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) which Hajiji is also the President, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah), Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP), Usno, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS), Parti Liberal Demokratik (LDP) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

GRS currently holds 42 seats, including the Nominated Assemblymen.

Overall, the GRS-PH Plus government block controls 50 out of 73 seats in the State Assembly.

Pandikar, who is also GRS Deputy Chairman, reiterated recently that there is no need for GRS to form an electoral alliance with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) for the coming state election.

His view is also shared by StarSabah President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and SAPP President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, both also GRS Deputy Chairman.
