20 children of Duchess of Kent Hospital patients get Back To School aid

SANDAKAN: Duchess of Kent Hospital (HDOK) Sandakan through the Medical Social Work Department implemented a Back to School programme, assisting 20 primary school students from years one to six here school clothes and equipment at one of the supermarkets here, recently.

All the recipients were also children of underprivileged patients who were currently or had been receiving treatment at the hospital in preparation for returning to school.

It was also one of the hospital’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes with caring strategic partners. The presentation of the equipment was officiated by the Director of HDOK Sandakan, Dr. Mohd Fahmie Othman who was also present with the family and the children looking for their equipment at the supermarket.

The organising chairman who is also the Head of the Medical Social Work Department Mohamad Johari Omardin said that the programme was the department’s annual event and had entered its fourth year to help the families of the patients involved.

Meanwhile, the organisers would like to express their appreciation to all parties involved in making the programme a success, including the Malaysian Medical Welfare Fund HDOK Branch, Puzat Zakat Sabah, who donated money to the children in need, food providers, McDonald’s and Mydin Supermarket, who provided the programme and shopping venues.
