Sabah PKR hails exporting gas to Philippines
Razeef, who is also Tuaran PKR division chief, added that investments in energy transmission infrastructure and renewable energy development could have a positive impact on Sabah’s economy through job creation and skill development.
SANDAKAN: Sabah PKR welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s initiative for Sarawak to supply electricity to the Philippines through Sabah via a 500-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas turbine power plant in Miri, along with three other plants in Bintulu with a combined capacity of 1,500MW.

This proposal is seen as a positive step in using the energy resources available in Bintulu and Miri, benefiting not only Malaysia, including Sabah, but also neighbouring countries, particularly Mindanao.

According to Sabah PKR Information Chief Razeef Rakimin, the initiative not only strengthens bilateral ties between Malaysia and the Philippines but also reinforces Sabah’s position as a key energy hub in the region.

“The use of natural gas as an electricity source transmitted through Sabah to meet the Philippines’ energy demand is a strategic move, ensuring Sabah’s energy resources are maximised effectively.
