Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Election Director, Jeffery Nor Mohamed, said any development plan that involves the State’s progress and creation of jobs should not take years to process.
He was referring to the announcement of the e-steel project in 2022 whereby the first phase was to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023 and completed this year.
The project had an investment value of approximately 1.29 billion USD, equivalent to RM5.8 billion.
Jeffery questioned the rationale behind the lengthy approval process for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report and delays in its completion.
Commenting on Sabah Minister of Industrial Development Phoong Jin Zhe’s assurance that the project has not been shelved, he said the terms mentioned were subjective.
Jeffery hoped that all announcements related to development projects are not for appeasement but are implemented effectively.
Meanwhile, Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) should be able to continue after the coming election on its achievements without asking for a chance to implement Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0.
“If the SMJ plan that was previously announced had proceeded smoothly and yielded satisfactory results, why is there a need to plead for a second chance?
“The people will surely continue to support sincerely without any request from the government.
"The decision of the people is based on performance, and they are certainly more appreciative of results rather than empty promises.
“If SMJ fails, I believe the people would also certainly understand the need for change and renewal,” he said in a statement.
