PAPAR: Paparians will soon enjoy a more exciting shopping experience with an establishment of Parkson departmental store at Parklane City.
WSG Group managing director Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen said the company will commence construction of a three-storey shopping mall at Parklane City next year, with Parkson as the anchor tenant.
She said Parkson will offer between 80,000 to 100,000 square feet of shopping experience to consumers.
“We will begin construction of the mall next year and complete the project in three years’ time,” she said when briefing Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) committee and members led by its president Datuk Frankie Liew who visited Parklane City show gallery here on Sunday.
Susan said the company has received booking enquiries from interested parties who wished to operate bowling alley, gymnasium and sports shop at the shopping mall.
Apart from the mall, she said the WSG Group will undertake the construction of a 10-storey hotel with 200 to 300 rooms in 2026 as well. “A medical centre will also be established in Parklane City to provide local communities comprehensive medical and healthcare services,” she said.
Meanwhile, Susan said all 320 double-storey and three-storey shoplots at Benoni Commercial Centre and Parklane City have been sold out.
The company is currently building Tower A of Parklane Residences Lifestyles Condominium. The 19-storey condominium tower has 215 units, offering two types of layouts, either two bedrooms and two bathrooms units or three bedrooms and two bathrooms units.
The SCCC delegation later enjoyed a movie entitled “8 Ringgit Millionaire” at 10Star Cinemas. Susan revealed to the delegates that she built the cinema to fulfil her mother, Datin Seri Panglima Chen Si Mui’s dream.
She said her parents, the late Datuk Seri Panglima Wong Kwok and Chen, would go to the movies in Papar when they first started dating. So when she developed Parklane City, Susan made it a point to include a cinema in the masterplan as a way to fulfil her mother’s dream.
“I take my mother to the cinema every month. Having a cinema in Papar is my mother’s dream and Papar is the place where my dreams come true.”
On the other hand, Liew commended Susan for her contribution in stimulating the economy in Papar with the construction of Benoni New Township and Parklane City.
“It is a blessing to have Datuk Susan in Papar because she has charted new milestones in boosting the local economy. “Benoni will be even more prosperous in the future as it is a path that motorists from Keningau, Tenom and Beaufort will inevitably pass by,” he said.
SCCC vice president cum Women Entrepreneurs chairlady Tan Siew Ling said the delegation hoped to explore opportunities in Papar, especially in education and green energy.
She said there is a need to look into solar power in view of the insufficient power supply particularly in the outskirts. Hence, Tan said SCCC has brought along a China-national, who is an engineer by profession, to explore the possibility of solar power investment in Papar.
Also present were SCCC deputy president Brett Chua and vice presidents Datuk Kevin Lim, JP and Datuk Jonathan Koh, JP and Kapitan Foo Hoe Weng.
