Kota Kinabalu: SAPP has accused the DAP Luyang Constituency Office of collecting personal data from the public, including mobile phone numbers, identity card details, bank account information, employment records and educational background.

Its Vice President Gee Tien Seng claimed applicants are required to photocopy a blank form at their own expense (20 sen per copy), and this form consists only of a set of columns to be filled in without any letterhead, logo, or identifying details, which casts serious doubts on its legitimacy.

“Many senior citizens were seen waiting for hours, hopeful that by submitting the form they would secure financial assistance and over the course of several days, the gathering migrated to the ground floor of the Foh Sang Parking Building,” he said, in a statement.

It raises serious concerns over the legitimacy and security of such practices, he said.

“Collecting sensitive personal information without clear procedures, transparency, or official documentation may constitute serious offences under the law (PDPA 2010), and the absence of a verifiable form increases the risk of data misuse, fraud and public deception.

“If the promised subsidies do not actually exist, the public may be misled into false expectations, potentially leading to unnecessary dissatisfaction towards the GRS-led government,” he said, and urged the authorities to conduct an immediate investigation to ensure that citizens’ personal data is properly protected and that any wrongdoing is addressed.
