Danger traps and clogged drains in Putatan

PUTATAN: Parti Warisan Putatan Division Women Chief, Juriah Uda, said missing manhole covers along Jalan Tansau-Tombovo pose safety hazards to pedestrians, especially school children.

“Every day, many students from Taman Ketiau and PPR Keramat walk to SMK Tansau and SK Tansau. Parents are worried about their children’s safety. Are the relevant authorities waiting for tragedy to occur before doing something?” she asked.

Committee member Florian Frederick, expressed concern over the poorly maintained drains along Jalan Tansau-Tombovo.

“It is the main cause of frequent flash floods in the area and shows lackadaisical attitude of those responsible in maintaining them.”

Weeds clogging this drain, which was neglected by the authorities, resulting in floods in Ketiau.

“The clogged and stagnant drains have become a breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue.

“The Council collects annual assessment taxes and parking fees, but fail to carry out consistent cleaning of drains in the district,” he said.
