PETALING JAYA: The Penang government has extended the waiver period for penalties over the late payment of quit rent to May 31 this year.

In a statement, the chief minister’s office said the extension was granted due to the positive response received during the initial waiver period, which began in January and was scheduled to end today.

The office said the full waiver would be automatically applied to all land and parcel owners with tax arrears, including those slapped with a Penalty Notice 6A (land tax) or Penalty Notice 11 (parcel tax).

“However, the offer does not apply to those who pay in instalments. The offer is also not retrospective and cannot be enjoyed by land or parcel owners who paid their arrears before this date of exemption,” it said.
