Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu district police have urged residents to strengthen security measures to prevent home burglaries, particularly when leaving their homes unattended for extended periods, such as during holidays.
District police chief ACP Kasim Muda emphasised that simple precautions could significantly reduce crime risks, including locking all doors and windows properly, securing parked vehicles, and turning off unnecessary electrical appliances to prevent fire hazards.
He encouraged residents planning to be away for long periods to inform the nearest police station so that officers can conduct patrols in their neighbourhoods.
The public can also use the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) app or QR Code Aduan Masyarakat to facilitate police monitoring and quick response if needed.
"Residents should also avoid sharing their travel plans on social media to prevent potential burglars from targeting their homes," he said in a statement.
