Kota Kinabalu: POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd Chairman Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said MASwings flights from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu will not be cancelled for at least the next two years.

He said POIC Sabah has obtained confirmation from the relevant authorities that MASwings flights to Lahad Datu, as well as other routes such as Kudat, Tawau, and Sandakan, will continue operating as usual.

“Although MASwings has now become AirBorneo, its rural air service agreement with the Malaysian Government remains in effect.

“The MASwings air service agreement is still valid and will continue for at least two years. Therefore, there is no need for concern during this period,” he said when met after the launch of the Neptune Oil Storage Terminal and Refinery in POIC Lahad Datu and the exchange of documents between POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd and TS Asia Green Engineering Sdn Bhd, Jetama Sdn Bhd and Legenda Biomass Sdn Bhd at Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu, Friday.

Yong, also a Nominated Assemblyman, said he will be meeting with the authorities in Sarawak to seek clarification on the future direction of this air service after the two-year period ends.

It is reported that the Sarawak Government has set up the AirBorneo which will take over the air services between East Malaysian destinations currently run by MASwings, a subsidiary of national carrier Malaysia Airlines.
