PAPAR: Another bomb, believed to be a relic of the Second World War (WW2), was discovered at a construction site near Lok Kawi Plastic Industries, here, Friday – the second this week.
The Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) measuring 1.2 metres long and weighing 250kg was found by construction workers doing excavation work at 7.30am, about three metres from where the first bomb was discovered on Tuesday.
District Police Chief Supt Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said detonation of the bomb would be carried out after a meeting with relevant agencies Friday afternoon.

“This is necessary as several factors, especially public and property safety, need to be taken into consideration. “After the detonation of the first bomb on Wednesday, excavation work for a tank construction by a company resumed in the area. “After receiving a report at 7.30am, a police team from the Papar district police headquarters (IPD), including the Sabah Bomb Disposal Unit (UPB), was deployed to the site.
“They confirmed that the object was indeed another WWII-era bomb, similar to the one found on Feb 25. “We will proceed with the disposal, but a district-level meeting with relevant agencies is necessary to coordinate the operation,” he said.
He added that this measure is crucial to prevent public disturbances, casualties, or property damage.
The bomb is still active and highly dangerous. “Therefore, similar precautionary steps as before will be taken, including public announcements and road closures near the disposal site,” he said.
