PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission may call former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to assist in its investigation into several corruption and money laundering cases.

Sinar Harian reported that MACC recorded a statement from the Bera MP last week.
“MACC had called and interviewed him (Ismail) for about five hours to assist in the investigation,” said the source.
“MACC does not rule out the possibility of calling him again, but it will depend on time and other circumstances, especially his health condition.”
Ismail collapsed at home on Feb 22 and was hospitalised for blood pressure-related problems.
On Thursday, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency will summon eight individuals as part of its investigation following the arrest of four of Ismail’s former officers.
The former officers were remanded on Feb 21 for suspected involvement in corruption and have since been released.
Azam previously said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act, which deals with soliciting and accepting bribes, as well as the anti-money laundering law.
Last year, MACC began a probe into RM700 million allegedly used for promotional and publicity purposes to showcase the government’s achievements during the two previous administrations from 2020 to 2022.
MACC was seeking to discover how the money was spent, and had called up the companies which received the funds from the government.
