KENINGAU: Police seized 871 boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth approximately RM21.19 million, along with seven vehicles, in an OPS Taring Daratan raid at an unregistered warehouse on Jalan Patikang Ulu on Friday (Feb 28) at around 10.30am.
District police chief Supt Yampil Garai confirmed that the police arrested a 62-year-old Chinese man suspected to be the warehouse supervisor.
Guided by the suspect, police were led to an unregistered palm oil plantation on Jalan Mongitom Bunga Raya Kikiran, where various types of suspected untaxed cigarettes were stored.
Seven Indonesian men, aged between 19 and 37, believed to be store workers and cigarette distribution assistants, were also arrested.
Later the same day, at around 5.30pm, another raid was conducted at a premises on Jalan Apin-Apin, where police found suspected untaxed alcohol worth RM87,801.21 and arrested a 31-year-old local man.
