KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin called on the Federal Government to provide clear and transparent evidence regarding the reallocation of funds from the scrapped RM4 billion Trans Sabah Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project.
He said the project was initially cancelled with the justification that the funds would be redirected to other strategic sectors, including electricity, industry and petrochemicals in Sabah.
However, Bung questioned whether the reallocation actually materialised.
“I urge the Government to provide concrete proof that the TSGP funds have truly been redistributed to these sectors.
“What specific mechanisms and projects have been implemented? How much has been allocated to each sector?” he asked in a statement, Saturday.
Bung stressed that the TSGP was meant to bring significant benefits to Sabah, particularly in enhancing gas and energy infrastructure.
The project’s cancellation, he said, has raised concerns about the Government’s commitment to developing the State.
“If the funds were indeed channelled into the electricity sector, why do many rural areas in Sabah still struggle with unstable power supply? If they were redirected to industry, to what extent has Sabah’s industrial development actually benefited from this reallocation?
“If they were meant for the petrochemical sector, what tangible progress has been made in this industry, which is supposed to be a key driver of the state’s economy?” he questioned.
He also highlighted that Sabah has long been promised development, yet the State continues to lag behind in infrastructure and basic facilities compared to other parts of Malaysia.
“If the Government is serious about developing Sabah, it must back its words with clear action, not just announcements that fail to deliver real results for the people,” he asserted.
Bung urged the Government to provide an immediate explanation on the status of the reallocated funds, warning against the possibility that Sabah has once again been sidelined in national development plans.
“Do not let the cancellation of TSGP become yet another episode of injustice towards Sabah,” he said.
