Kota Kinabalu: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary-General Datuk Chin Shu Ying said corruption investigations must be based on solid evidence, not edited videos, media manipulation or political manoeuvring.
He said this in response to the “Langkah Billiard and Biawak Episode 6” video allegedly circulated by the opposition and certain parties in an attempt to create political impact.
He said the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has always adhered to the principles of transparency and accountability, implementing crucial reforms to ensure that Sabah’s resources are properly managed and not monopolized by a few.
“The people of Sabah deserve the truth, not baseless accusations aimed at creating chaos and gaining political advantage through false scandals,” he said.
He said LDP firmly supports Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the GRS Government.
“We will not allow any political manipulation, tampering with evidence, or intimidation tactics to undermine the achievements of the GRS government. “Let us unite and fight against those who use the political system for personal gain,” he said.
Earlier in his statement, Chin said the political smear campaign against GRS State Government and the Chief Minister is politically motivated and baseless accusations targeting the GRS Government, especially Hajiji.
“These alleged accusations are based on manipulated videos and misleading narrative that are clearly attempts to destabilise the government rather than to promote true accountability,” Chin said.
He said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that the heavily edited videos cannot be used as evidence.
He added that the Deputy Attorney-General has also ruled that the accusations lacked substantiation, due the lack of credible evidence and whistleblower who was unwilling to testify in court, making prosecution impossible.
“The opposition’s latest accusation is nothing but a desperate political move to mislead the public and tarnish the reputation of the GRS government. “The so-called whistleblower chose to exaggerate his claims in the media instead of following the proper legal procedures. “If he truly had concrete evidence, why didn’t he report it to the authorities? “The answer is simple - because he knows his accusations won’t hold up in court,” he said.
According to reports, he said shocking details were revealed about the whistleblower’s threats against the Sabah government in the lawsuit filed by Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd against the whistleblower and another defendant.
“After his 21 applications for mining prospecting licenses were rejected, he directly threatened the government, warning that “a big earthquake would happen in Sabah” if the government did not reverse its decision.
“He (whistleblower) even warned that if the Chief Minister did not cooperate, he should be prepared for a “ticking time bomb” and threatened to overthrow the government,” said Chin.
Chin said this was clearly a series of accusations carefully planned and operated that was aimed at weakening the leadership of the GRS and destabilizing the government.
