Folks in Kampung Galila Jaya decide not to wait for help
The villagers used palm trunks to repair the hanging bridge.
BEAUFORT: Kampung Galila Jaya residents in Padas Gamit here joined forces to repair a suspension bridge leading to a resident’s house using areca palm trunks.

“The suspension bridge is needed for people to attend a resident’s wedding ceremony in April,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.

He said residents came together to repair the suspension bridge because they did not receive any allocation from the government. “Residents do not have enough funds and had to use areca palm trunks split in half to serve as the floor of the suspension bridge,” he said.

He said the suspension bridge is an important connection for residents who want to visit relatives, especially when they are hosting gatherings and wedding ceremonies.

He also said there is no alternative route to visit there except for that one path. Residents have to be more careful when using it because they worry about falling and injuring themselves, especially children, the elderly and pregnant women.

He said the suspension bridge’s flooring has been damaged for the past six years and he has informed the relevant elected representative.

“The elected representative promised to maintain the bridge but we have waited and continue waiting for the promise which is just a promise,” he said.
