The Ranau PDRM IPD is monitoring two major landslides around the district as rain continues to fall. The landslide was on Jalan Kinapulidan which caused the road to be impassable in both directions while on Jalan Utama Takurik only one vehicle could pass.

Efforts to repair both roads are being carried out by JKR Ranau. Both roads were managed to be cleared by the relevant authorities and vehicles were able to drive through the locations at a slower pace.

Meanwhile, Ranau Fire and Rescue Chief Ridwan Mohd Taib said flash flood incidents happened in Kg Silad, Kg Lukapon, Kg Bahab and villages along the river banks.

“Fortunately, so far, no injuries or loss of life was reported, but we hope the status remains unchanged. Nevertheless we hope the weather will improve, and until then, we hope everyone stays alert.

“Our officers and personnel will continue monitoring hotspot areas like Kg Libang and Kg Marakau. Our fear is that similar conditions will recur,” he said.

Ridwan said all Fire and Rescue Department personnel are in standby mode in facing the current flooding as well as soil erosion threats that are looming.

He urged residents here to remain vigilant at all times as long as the weather is unstable because, from what was learned in previous disasters, the situation can change in a matter of minutes.

“Keep important documents in one place (so that) it is easy to take out in case of an emergency, also immediately leave the house and go to a safer place if a similar incident occurs in the future,” he said.

He also advised villagers here not to hesitate and contact BOMBA RANAU 24 hours at 088-878779 or dial the emergency line 999 immediately in case of further flooding, cracks or landslides.
