The foreigner being approached by cops for inspection.
TAWAU: Police arrested a foreigner who admitted to using someone else’s MyKad at Batu 5, Jalan Apas on Monday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the man’s suspicious behaviour resulted in him being detained during a crime prevention patrol at 2.45 pm.

He said officers from the Tawau Police Station Strike Team approached the man in his 20s, following which the man furnished an identity card that was not his.

“The man admitted that the MyKad did not belong to him and that he was only using it as an identification document to avoid being detected as a foreigner,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Jasmin said a check through the Integrated Police Reporting System revealed that the MyKad used by the man was a document previously reported lost in Kota Kinabalu.

He said stern action would be taken against any individual caught using false or someone else’s document.
