SEMPORNA: A juvenile saltwater crocodile spotted near a resort on Pom Pom Island here was successfully captured by locals in a community effort last night.
After an hour-long struggle, the young crocodile was safely pulled from the water, drawing much attention as such sightings are rare around the island.
Kept overnight under the supervision of the Tropical Research and Conservation Centre (TRACC), the reptile was prepared for transport and handed over to the Sabah Wildlife Department in Semporna.
Before its capture, the crocodile had been sighted twice—on the northeastern and southwestern sides of the island.
The Sabah Wildlife Department is now relocating the crocodile to a safer habitat, ensuring public safety and conservation efforts.
