Illegal entry: China national fined RM3,000
The offence, under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963, provides for a jail term of up to five years or a fine of up to RM10,000 and whipping on conviction. 
Kota Kinabalu: A man from China was fined RM3,000 or four months’ jail for entering the State illegally.

Tan Liu Feng pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain to the charge against him.

Tan was detained at 11.20pm on Feb 19 this year at the Counter 2 of the Balai Transborder in Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here.

During mitigation, Tan asked for a fine only to be imposed on him as he wished to return to his hometown soon as possible.

However, Prosecuting Officer Yolanda Ismail Uvaraj from the Immigration Department urged the court to hand down an appropriate sentence on Tan.

Tan had paid the fine.

Meanwhile, a Filipino was sentenced to 10 months’ jail for illegal entry and re-entering the State without any document.

Rosli Karim admitted to both charges against him.

On the first count, he was sent to prison for four months and Rosli was arrested at 8.45pm on Feb 18 this year at the Satay Sedap Jony stall in Sadong Jaya, Jalan Sembulan, here.

On the second count, Rosli was jailed six months for re-entering the State illegally after he was deported to his hometown.

The court ordered Rosli to serve the jail sentence consecutively from the date of his arrest.

The court heard that Rosli was detained by the Immigration personnel after failing to produce his identity document during the raid at the said area.

After completing the jail sentence, Rosli was ordered referred to the Immigration Department for further action.
