Kuala Lumpur: A 26-year-old p-hailing worker has been charged with murdering a six-year-old boy in Sentul on March 3.
Syafiq Daniel Osman is accused of murdering Shakir Firman Firdaus in a room at a hotel on Jalan Ipoh here between 1.15am and 7.15am.
He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murder, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and mandatory whipping of at least 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
No plea was recorded in the magistrates’ court as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The magistrate, Amira Abd Aziz, set May 26 for mention of the case.
At a sessions court, Syafiq’s wife, Nur Nilam Kamaruddin, 26, pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of abusing the boy.
Nilam, who was the child’s caretaker, is accused of causing physical injuries to him in an incident at a People’s Housing Programme (PPR) unit in Kepong at about 9pm on Feb 25.
The accused, who is pregnant with her third child, is charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for imprisonment of up to 20 years, a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both, if found guilty.
Judge Siti Syakirah Mohtarudin granted her bail of RM10,000 in one surety and ordered her to report to the nearest police station once a month until the case is concluded.
The court set April 9 for mention.
