Kota Kinabalu: The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Kota Kinabalu is on the brink of closure due to severe financial constraints, urgently appealing for donations to keep its shelter running.

The non-profit organisation, which has long been a beacon of hope for stray and abandoned animals, is struggling to sustain its operations.

The combination of increased operational costs, including the new minimum wage, soaring veterinary expenses and a continuous influx of rescue cases, has placed SPCA KK in a dire situation.

“If we are forced to shut down, the 261 dogs and 90 cats currently under our care will be left with nowhere to go,” said SPCA KK in a statement Wednesday. “We rely entirely on public support to continue our mission, and right now, we need urgent help.”
